Three important points:
- Be accurate and entirely truthful; tempting as it can be, 100% honesty must be the first rule.
- Provide relevant information with accurate spelling; your writer may edit what you have provided or add to it. It can be useful to leave enhancements for you to raise at interview
- Focus is everything; concentrating on the target job and career is the route to a successful CV, leading to a successful interview.
N.B. Please take your time to decide the most relevant information for you. A small selection of examples has been provided to help illustrate the requirements but do not feel obliged to use our terms or our examples. We have also provided you with an ‘open-area’, for you to add precisely what you feel is most appropriate to your personality.
Provide a summary of who you are and what you value about yourself where your career is concerned. You may prefer to write some key words here that can be expanded upon during a phone conversation with your personal writer. Employment history/Work Experience:
List your employment history in reverse chronological order with your most recent employment first. Include the name and contact details of the organisation, job title and dates and use bullet points to summarise your key duties and responsibilities there. Be sure to highlight the parts that relate to the job/person specification and use positive language to describe what you did rather than just listing it.

soft skills are less tangible and harder to quantify, such as etiquette, getting along with others, listening and engaging in small talk.
Education and Qualifications:
If you are a recent student or short on employment history then this is best placed above the Work Experience section. Again, use reverse chronological order to list your academic achievements and include the name of school or university attended with contact information and dates. You also need to list the subjects studied and qualifications obtained, however this need not be in full – be selective about which degree modules are relevant to the job, and summarise your GCSE grades (e.g. 9 GCSEs at grades A – C)
Skills/Qualifications and hard skills in your key achievements section: This could include computer programs, foreign languages or shorthand qualifications – always indicate your level.
Hard skills are specific, teachable abilities that can be defined and measured, such as typing, writing, math, reading and the ability to use software programs. By contrast, focus primarily on skills that relate to the job in question and don’t just list them – explain them. For example don’t just claim to have “great communication skills” give examples (e.g. listening, interacting, working effectively in a team)
This is a chance to give your CV a more personal feel and to talk about any talents or passions outside of work. This can include anything from movies and music to gardening or Sudoku. Highlight any achievements without showing off, and keep it brief.
